Memorial Medical Center - Livingston

 

Since Memorial Medical Center—Livingston opened its new facility in July 2000, the hospital has provided emergent and acute care to thousands of area residents.

The hospital specializes in critical access care with its 24/7 emergency room and diagnostic services, which includes MRI, CT, and X-Ray scanning. Additionally, the hospital has a fully integrated women’s center that offers obstetrics and gynecology care, plus digital mammography. The latest addition to its service line is a new Sleep Disorders Center, which is under the medical leadership of Dr. Robert Fayle, a board certified neurologist.

Currently, the hospital is home to more than 30 physicians who specialize in primary care, internal medicine, pediatrics, cardiology, infectious diseases, rheumatology and nephrology.

In 2007, the hospital opened two floors in its new bed tower. These floors are home to medical surgical rooms and a new intensive care unit. The 160,000-square-foot tower was designed by local physicians and nurses to be an active part of a patient’s healing process. From the lighting to the carpeting, wood flooring, paint and new bedding, nurses and physicians designed a facility to maximize the healing process.

With the capacity to open 200 additional patient rooms, a highly skilled medical staff, and a talented and knowledgeable group of nurses and technicians, Memorial Medical Center—Livingston is a premiere hospital located in one of the fastest growing retirement communities in Texas.

Memorial Medical Center – Livingston

 

Memorial Medical Center – Livingston was recently recognized by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott’s Office for excellence in completing and reporting birth records. Memorial had a 78% Acknowledgement of Paternity (AOP) completion rate compared to the state percentage of 71% in the Fourth Quarter of 2009. According to the Office of the Attorney General, the AOP, when signed by both the biological father and mother, becomes a legal finding of paternity.  Receives Exemplary Performance Recognition


Memorial Medical Center – Livingston has been recognized for Exemplary Performance by the Texas Department of State Health Services for contributing to the health of Texas children through outstanding implementation of the newborn consent process for ImmTrac, the Texas Immunization Registry.

ImmTrac is the Texas immunization registry. It is a secure, confidential registry that stores children’s immunization information electronically, in one centralized system. Authorized professionals such as doctors, nurses and public health providers can access vaccination history at anytime which aids in avoiding unnecessary vaccinations as well as making sure children receive vaccines needed. Local Orthopedic Surgeon Receives National Recognition


Dr. George DeLoach, an orthopedic surgeon at Memorial Medical Center—Livingston, recently received the highly honorable Fellow Award at the annual convention of The American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (AOAO). The gathering of America’s topmost surgeons was held in historic Boston in early October. Dr. DeLoach was one of merely twenty-two orthopedic surgeons around the nation to earn this distinction.


The title of “Fellow” is granted by the AOAO to members of the surgical field who have made an outstanding contribution to the healing arts, to the practice of Orthopedic Surgery research, or who have contributed such other meritorious services reflecting credit upon the Osteopathic profession.
The mission of the AOAO is to continually increase the knowledge of all Osteopathic physicians. As part of this mission, the AOAO is in charge of certifying orthopedic surgeons, making sure they are qualified before they begin their practice.   Read the press release.

Home Care Month


Sometimes the best medicine can be found at home. That’s why so many patients who are discharged from the hospital transition to home care services. Home health care makes it possible for patients who are recovering, disabled, chronically or terminally ill in need of medical, nursing, social or therapeutic treatment to stay at home for their care. According to the National Association for Home Care and Hospice, more than 11 million Americans receive home-delivered health care. November is national home care month, and Memorial Medical Center – Livingston is taking the opportunity to recognize the staff of Memorial Home Care and the important services they provide patients.

Home care, as defined by the National Association for Home Care and Hospice, is a simple phrase that encompasses a wide range of health and social services. Home care provides care in the patient’s home and in familiar surroundings, which in itself has a positive and therapeutic effect. Memorial Opens New Roof Garden

 

It is the latest in comfort and healing and it can be found right here in Livingston, Texas.  This week Memorial Medical Center—Livingston officially opened one of the first roof gardens housed at health care facilities in Texas.  The 2,023 square foot garden is home to towering palm trees, tropical plants and green synthetic grass.  Made possible by The Pedigo family of Livingston, Jessie Patino of Tropical Gardens and Memorial Health System of East Texas, the garden will serve as a quiet “get away” for patients and guests wanting to soak up the sun while reading a good book or just relaxing on one of the many park benches with family and friends.

 

According to David LeMonte, Administrator for Memorial Medical Center—Livingston, the garden was created as parted of the hospital’s “Growing for Your Future Campaign” in 2006.  As part of that capital fund raiser the hospital presented various sponsorship programs to the community, one being the concept of a roof garden.  The Pedigo Family donated funds for the project in memory of Gloria Pedigo, Cheri Pedigo Wheeland and in honor of Joe and Rogene Pedigo.  The family wanted to provide a quite, tranquil place for patients, family members and employees to sit and relax.  Read the press release.

When you think of eating out, a hospital cafeteria may not come to mind. However, you might want to think again. Memorial Medical Center – Livingston is partnering with Morrison’s to bring its patients and guests delicious and nutritious foods that can leave the pickiest taste buds satisfied.

Implements Catering to You


At a recent visit to Memorial Medical Center – Livingston, Mr. G. H. Robinett was surprised when he was given several menu options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Personal choice dining is all part of Memorial Medical Center – Livingston’s new Catering to You program that provides patients with a menu of food choices for each meal of the day.

“Memorial has some pretty good choices on the menu. I would rather have a choice on what I want to eat,” said Mr. Robinett. “Also, I like the attention I receive from the one-on-one contact with the staff.”

Catering to You is all about providing an exceptional patient dining experience. Each patient is greeted daily by a host or hostess from the hospital’s cafeteria. After looking through a menu of fresh fruits, vegetables, burgers and home-cooked favorites, the patient’s order is taken at the bedside. Helps Those Suffering From a Lack of Sleep

“Most East Texans with chronic sleep disorders are not diagnosed or even aware they have a problem. Disorders can lead to serious conditions if not treated properly,” said Dr. Robert Fayle, Neurologist and Sleep Medicine Practitioner. “Many times sleep disorders are disguised with conditions that are actually symptoms. At The Sleep Disorders Center – Livingston, we can diagnose the disorder and customize a treatment plan that provides you the benefit of adequate sleep.”

Participates in the Native American Health Coalition's Summit

 

Memorial Health System of East Texas is proud to be a part of the Native American Health Coalition (NAHC), an organization dedicated to combining resources and knowledge to make health services more accessible to all indigenous people. The NAHC mission is to provide health promotion, education and information/referral services, ensure culturally sensitive resources for health professionals and the community, advocate on behalf of Native Americans for essential health provision and include representation of all indigenous groups.



Recently, Memorial Medical Center—Livingston participated in the organization’s summit which was designed to convene individuals interested in promoting Native American health in Texas. This one-day Summit provided current information on the status of Native American health and health data and developed realistic solutions in collaboration with members from the community, research, public health, health care providers, policy makers, and the private sector to address health disparities affecting the rural and urban Native American population.
